One well-known disaster is the Titanic tragedy. The Titanic was a large passenger ship that sailed from Southampton to New York in April 1912. It was called “unsinkable”, but on 14 April it hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The ship was badly damaged and began to sink. There were not enough lifeboats for all the passengers and crew. More than 1,500 people died in the disaster, and only about 700 people were saved.

The Titanic disaster became one of the most famous sea tragedies in history. It showed that even the most modern and expensive ship can be dangerous if safety rules are not followed carefully.
