Задача
Look through the text and do the investigation following these steps:
- Find in the text the evidence to prove:
a) that the collection was very valuable;
b) that Mr Springwood was very neat about his things;
c) that all the family were upset about the disappearance of the collection. - Which of the characters didn’t have the key to the bureau?
- If you were a police officer, what other questions would you ask the Springwood family?
- What part of the detective story structure (see Ex. 2a, Lessons 1–2) does this text refer to?

Evidence:
- that the collection was very valuable — it was a rare and expensive collection;
- that Mr Springwood was very neat about his things — he always kept his things in perfect order;
- that all the family were upset about the disappearance of the collection — they were all shocked and worried when it went missing.
The character who didn’t have the key to the bureau: the maid.
Other questions a police officer could ask:
- When did you last see the collection?
- Who knew where the key was kept?
- Did anyone enter the room that day?
- Was anything else missing?
- Did you notice anything unusual?
