Listen to Stephen talking about car-boot sales.
Car-boot sales are a great British invention. When a person wants to sell their old clothes or games they take their car to a car-boot sale. They open the boot — that’s the back of the car — and people come along and buy the things that look interesting. Car-boot sales are a great place to sell or buy things. Everything is cheaper than in normal shops. Some car-boot sales are enormous with a lot of cars — up to 500. Others are smaller, but sometimes they sell more interesting things. I bought my electric guitar in a car-boot sale. It only cost ten pounds! You can find a lot of different things in a car-boot sale: clothes, games, books and CDs, tables and chairs, sports equipment — anything really. Sometimes there are too many things in a car-boot sale and you don’t have enough time to see everything. The best time to go is early in the morning. That way you get there before there are too many people. The most expensive things you can buy at a car-boot sale are furniture and cars! Yes, sometimes people sell their cars at the sale too.
