1 Read the rules and the sentences. Which part of each sentence is the consequence?

Look!
Was or were?
We can use was or were after if in a conditional sentence. However, were is more usual after I. If I were richer, I would give money to charity. Your hair would look better if it was shorter.
3 Complete the text with the correct form of the verbs in brackets.
If I won (win) the lottery, I (1) would have a lot of money. If I (2) had a lot of money, I (3) would give it to charity. But if I (4) gave all my money to charity, I (5) would be poor. And if I (6) was poor, I (7) wouldn’t buy a lottery ticket. And if I (8) didn’t buy a ticket, I (9) wouldn’t win the lottery! Oh dear, what shall I do?
