Read the text about Beatrix Potter again and say as much as you can about:

• her family;
• her interests;
• her stories;
• her first famous book.

Her family: Beatrix Potter was born in London on 6 July 1866. She was an only daughter of rather rich parents. She did not go to school, but had classes at home.

Her interests: She was fond of animals and drawing. She had many small pets at home, such as snails, mice, a rabbit, bats and a hedgehog. From childhood she made hundreds of drawings of plants and animals and became very good at it.

Her stories: She often illustrated letters to her child friends with little animal drawings and told them stories about these animals. Later she wrote stories about mice, kittens, ducks, squirrels, hedgehogs and rabbits.

Her first famous book: In 1893 she wrote a letter to a little boy called Noel Moor and told him the story of Peter Rabbit. Eight years later she turned this story into her famous book The Tale of Peter Rabbit. The book was very successful, and Beatrix Potter became a professional children’s writer.
