what holidays and festivals are popular in our country;
what traditions connected with them you know;
what is your favourite holiday/festival and why you like it so much. You have to talk for 1.5-2 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then he/she will ask you some questions.

You play the part of a student in an international language school. There will be a sports event at your school soon and you want to take part in the competition. On campus you see your classmate Jane/John who is a member of the organising committee.
Ask your classmate how you can participate in the event.
Answer your classmate’s questions about your favourite kinds of sport.
Answer the questions about what sports are popular among young people in Russia.
Reject the invitation to go to the cinema. Give an excuse.
You begin the conversation. The examiner will play the part of your classmate.
Remember to:
mention all four aspects of the task;
take an active part in the conversation and be polite.

Task 1
Holidays and festivals are very important in our country. The most popular ones are New Year, Victory Day, Christmas, Easter and Maslenitsa.
People have many traditions connected with these holidays. On New Year’s Eve families decorate a New Year tree, give presents and watch fireworks. On Victory Day people take part in parades and remember those who fought in the war. At Christmas and Easter people visit relatives, go to church and prepare special food. During Maslenitsa people bake pancakes and have fun outdoors.
My favourite holiday is New Year because it is a very cheerful family holiday. I like it so much because everyone is in a good mood, we get presents and spend time together.
Task 2
Student: Hello, Jane/John. I’d like to take part in the sports competition. How can I participate in the event?
Jane/John: You need to fill in the form and choose the sport you want to compete in.
Student: Thank you. My favourite kinds of sport are football and swimming.
Jane/John: Why do you like them?
Student: I like football because it is exciting and team spirit is important. I like swimming because it is healthy and relaxing.
Jane/John: What sports are popular among young people in Russia?
Student: Football, hockey, basketball, volleyball and fitness are very popular among young people in Russia.
Jane/John: Would you like to go to the cinema with me?
Student: I’m sorry, I can’t. I have to prepare for my English test.
