Текст аудирования:
1
Woman: So what are you up to for this holiday, Jack?
jack: We’re going backpacking. Look — this is where we’re staying for the first week.
Woman: Hmm. Isn’t that rather expensive, Jack?
Jack: No, it’s actually really cheap — much cheaper than a hotel. But I hope it’s not too crowded. Sometimes there are 20 people sleeping in one room! I’m glad I’ve got a really comfortable sleeping bag! Woman: What about food? This place hasn’t got a restaurant, has it?
Jack: No, but that’s OK, we’re going to spend most of the time sightseeing anyway — you know, visiting museums, that kind of thing. We can just buy bread and fresh vegetables from the markets every day.
2
Woman: Sam, do you know where you’re staying yet?
Sam: Yes! It’s a wonderful place, very romantic.
Woman: Oh, really?
Sam: Yes, the views are fantastic — you can see the sea from every window. And there’s a wonderful bar and two restaurants. We’ve got a double room for six nights, luxury breakfast included in the price.
Woman: I bet it’s very expensive.
Sam: Umm … well, yes, it is. Very …
3
Woman: So, you’re off on holiday, Bill. Where are you going this time?
Bill: Scotland … again. I’m going hiking in the mountains.
Woman: Are you taking your tent again?
Bill: No, not this time. I’m staying in bothies …
Woman: Bothies? What’s that?
Bill: It’s a Scottish word. Bothies are small wooden huts in the mountains, like a shelter, you know. They’re very basic. Just a place to put your sleeping bag, really, but I’m looking forward to it! Peace and quiet — just me and a few sheep!
4 T016 Listen to Jack, Sam and Bill again. Match each speaker with two of statements 1-6.
1 He’s staying near the sea.
2 He’s going backpacking.
3 He doesn’t need to pay for breakfast.
4 He’s travelling alone.
5 He’s going to buy fresh food every day.
6 He’s going to spend his holiday in the mountains.
5 T017 Listen to Bill saying more about his holiday plans. Are the statements true or false?
1 This is Bill’s first holiday in Scotland.
2 Bill is starting his walk on Thursday.
3 Bill is staying in Scotland for just one week.
4 Bill is spending a lot of money on accommodation.
5 The mountain shelters have electricity but hot water.
6 You can meet people from different countries in the shelters.
Текст аудирования:
Woman: So, Bill, are you going to spend all your holiday walking?
Bill: No, I’m flying to Edinburgh next Tuesday and I’m staying there for two nights first, just sightseeing, enjoying the atmosphere, you know.
Woman: You like Edinburgh, don’t you?
Bill: Yes, I always have a great time there!
Woman: And after that you’re going to start walking?
Bill: That’s right — on Thursday. Everything is very carefully planned. I’m going to walk along the Southern Uplands Way.
Woman: What’s that?
Bill: It’s a path for walkers which goes from the west of Scotland to the east. It’s over 200 miles long and most of it is through the mountains.
Woman: 200 miles! That’s a long walk!
Bill: No, it’s OK actually. I’m planning to walk it in about ten days. There’s no hurry. I just want to relax and enjoy the wonderful views.
Woman: Is it going to be an expensive holiday, then?
Bill: No, I’m staying in a youth hostel in the centre of Edinburgh for the first two nights. That’s cheap and it’s always good fun.
Woman: What about the huts in the mountains — what are they called again?
Bill; Oh, yes, the bothies. They’re free.
Woman: Free? I’m not surprised — they don’t sound very comfortable.
Bill: Well, there is electricity and cold water.
Woman: Bill, that sounds terrible! No beds, washing in cold water…
Bill: No, it’s perfect — cooking supper high up in the Scottish mountains every evening. You can meet people from all over the world in the bothies, too.
Woman; Bill, you’re mad!
6 In pairs, answer the questions.
1 Which places are popular for tourists in our country?
2 What kind of accommodation do people stay in?
3 Do you often spend your holidays in these places?
