We use the Present Perfect to talk about:
- news and recent activities;
- past actions if we say when they happened;
- past actions if we don’t say exactly when they happened.
Look at how words a–d are used in the dialogue in Exercise 2 and match them with their uses 1–4.

- in affirmative sentences to mean very recently;
- in affirmative sentences to say something happened earlier than expected;
- in negative sentences to say something has not happened (but it may soon), or in questions to ask if something has happened;
- in questions, it means any time before now.
