The author means that people should not judge others only by their appearance or first impression. A person may seem unfriendly, strange, or different at first, but this does not show their real character.

I partly agree with this opinion. It is true that first impressions can be wrong, and we should try to understand people better before making conclusions. However, appearance and behaviour can sometimes tell us something important too. So, it is better to be open-minded and fair.
