Francis Drake sailed from Plymouth in 1577. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean and visited the Canary Islands, South America and the Strait of Magellan. Then he sailed up the Pacific coast of South America, reached California, crossed the Pacific Ocean, went through the Indian Ocean and rounded the Cape of Good Hope. Finally, he returned to Plymouth in 1580.
