1. We use the verb ask to report questions.

2. We use:

• a) the same question word: what, where, when, why, who, how;
• b) if or whether when the direct question begins with an auxiliary or modal verb.

3. In reported questions, the tense usually changes back one step: present simple → past simple, present continuous → past continuous, present perfect → past perfect, will → would.
