British newspapers can be divided into national and local papers. National newspapers are sold all over the country and report on important events in Britain and abroad. Local newspapers focus on news from a particular town or region and are usually more interesting for people who live there.
There are also quality papers and tabloids. Quality papers, such as The Times or The Guardian, give serious information, political news and analysis. Tabloids, for example The Sun or The Mirror, are smaller in size and usually contain short articles, sensational news, celebrity stories and lots of pictures.
Today the newspaper business is changing because of the modern revolution in media. Many people now read news online on websites, in apps and on social networks. As a result, printed newspapers are losing readers, while digital news becomes faster and more popular. However, newspapers are still an important source of information in Britain.
