It’s a fact that only one person among fourteen million wins the lottery. Sadly, knowing this fact doesn’t stop people from gambling. People of all ages gamble. A lot of teenagers become victims of this addiction. This is Jerry’s story:
“I started betting on American football. I was gambling on all the sports. I did well at first. I couldn’t wait to get the sports page every day so I could see who to bet on. Then I discovered Internet gambling. I stayed up all night and I felt sleepy and tired at school. I began losing money but I still couldn’t stop gambling. I used my parents’ credit cards to gamble online. When the credit card companies started calling the house, I was thousands of dollars in debt. I know I’ve been doing wrong but I don’t know how to make myself stop gambling.”

Advice for Jerry: You should stop gambling at once and tell your parents the truth. It would be better to block all gambling websites, cancel your credit cards and ask for help from a doctor or a counsellor. You need to spend more time on study, sport and other useful activities.

About gambling: Gambling is dangerous because people can lose a lot of money, get into debt and become addicted. Young people often start gambling because they want excitement, easy money or want to copy their friends. To avoid gambling, one should not try it “just for fun”, should choose healthy hobbies and should ask for help immediately if gambling has already become a problem.
