- The writer uses a formal, semi-formal style. For example: “These days, it is very common…”, “One of the main benefits…”, “In conclusion…”. The language is impersonal and neutral.
- To start the essay, the writer uses a rhetorical question and addresses the reader indirectly: “But is this always a good idea?” To end it, the writer uses a rhetorical question in the conclusion: “couldn’t it be a valuable experience…?”
- The writer’s opinion is balanced: sharing a house or flat has advantages and disadvantages, but overall it can be a valuable experience. It is stated in the conclusion: “while there are many advantages… there are a few disadvantages, too. On the whole, though…”
