The war in my chosen country happened in Rwanda. Rwanda is a small country in East Africa, near the equator. The conflict started in 1994 and is known as the Rwandan Genocide. It was a very violent ethnic conflict between the Hutu and the Tutsi.
The conflict was settled after about 100 days, but its consequences were terrible. During this time, hundreds of thousands of people were killed, and many others had to leave their homes. In my opinion, the conflict could have been prevented if the government and the international community had reacted earlier and protected human rights.
Today Rwanda is trying to live in peace, but people still remember this tragedy. I think such conflicts can be solved only by peaceful means: by respecting human rights, giving people freedom, and asking the UN and other international organisations to help in time.
