Geographical names are used in different ways:

• with the article the: the United Kingdom, the USA, the Netherlands, the Philippines, the Alps, the Thames, the Pacific Ocean, the Black Sea
• without an article: Russia, France, London, Paris, Asia, Africa, Europe, Lake Baikal, Mount Everest

Remember: we usually use the with names of rivers, seas, oceans, mountain ranges, groups of islands, and countries with plural names or words like kingdom, states, republic.
