I think people who wear unusual clothes and make-up do it for both reasons. Some of them want to be a part of a group and feel that they belong somewhere. Others want to stand out and show their individuality.

For example, many teenagers copy the style of their favourite singers or actors because they want to look like their friends and be accepted by others. At the same time, some people choose bright hair colours, unusual clothes or creative make-up to show that they are different and original.

In my opinion, both reasons are natural. People often use clothes and make-up to express themselves and to communicate who they are.
