1. Mrs Jefferson probably doesn’t want her daughter to be friends with Ellie Baker because she thinks Ellie is a bad influence.

2. Janet might like Ellie because Ellie seems more interesting, confident, or fun than Kathy.

3. Janet has probably dropped Kathy because she wants to fit in with Ellie or because she has changed her interests.

4. The conflict might end when Janet understands who her real friends are and makes up with Kathy.

5. Janet thinks a true friend should be loyal, honest, and supportive, and shouldn’t be selfish, rude, or disloyal.
