We use used to + infinitive to talk about past habits and states that are no longer true now.

Affirmative: The ancient Greeks used to call the Seven Wonders “theamata”.

Negative: The Pharaohs didn’t use to live in Spain.

Questions: Did they use to like travelling?

Short answers: Yes, they did. / No, they didn’t.

We don’t use used to for actions in the past that happened only once. In this case, we use the Past Simple.

Example: We went to Bulgaria on holiday last year.

Not correct: We used to go to Bulgaria on holiday last year.
