Задача

Приведем выдержку из задания из учебника Комарова, Ларионова 9 класс, Русское слово: Culture today 3
the BIG DEBATE: Should national borders exist?
Some people think that the internet and the globalization of the world economy have broken down old borders. However illegal immigrants still exist and not everybody can move freely across borders.
I think that borders shouldn’t exist. People should be able to come and go wherever they want, without having to show a passport
I disagree. You have to have border controls. Otherwise, how do you stop smuggling, uncontrolled immigration and arms and drugs trafficking?
European Union
Some areas of the world have agreements to allow the free movement of people from one country to another. EU workers can live and work in any country in the European Union. Eg, between 2004 and 2009 1,5 million workers migrated from the new EU member states to the UK, and today around 1,4 million UK-born people live in the European Union. But if you are European and you want to work in the USA, you need a visa. If you want to live and work there permanently, you need a special visa called a green card. The US government requires all immigrants to have this special visa.
Economic borders
Some borders exist to protect local economies. For example, bananas from South America are taxed more in Europe than bananas from the Canary Islands, Africa and the Caribbean. As a result, bananas from South America are less competitive in European markets. There are taxes like this on all sorts of products When people bring products into a country illegally without paying taxes, they are called smugglers .
Test your memory!
How many British people live and work in the EU?
What is a green card?
What is the name for a person who brings something into a country illegally without paying tax?
