Pollution from traffic, especially cars, contributes to global warming. People have different ideas about the best way to combat this problem.
In some cities there are ‘no car1 days, when drivers can’t use their cars on certain days of the week. Some people argue that this helps to reduce pollution. Experts (1) also say that ‘no car’ days encourage people to use public transport. (2) Moreover, by using less petrol, ‘no car’ days help reserve supplies of fossil fuels.

In conclusion, I think that ‘no car’ days would be a good way to combat traffic pollution if public transport systems were more reliable.

Smoking should be illegal.
Nowadays many people think that smoking should be illegal because it causes serious health problems. There are arguments for and against this idea.
On the one hand, smoking is dangerous not only for smokers, but also for people around them. It can cause cancer and other illnesses. Moreover, if smoking were banned, fewer young people would start this harmful habit.
On the other hand, some people believe that adults should be free to make their own choices. In addition, banning smoking completely might be difficult to control. Some people also think that the government should educate people instead of making smoking illegal.
In conclusion, I think smoking should be restricted very strictly. If there were stronger laws and better education, people would smoke less and society would be healthier.
