In the 17th century the first newspapers appeared. They were small, simple and usually contained official news and reports about important events.

Nowadays the press plays a very important role in society. Journalists need special training because their work is difficult and responsible. Journalism is a rewarding profession, as journalists can inform people, influence public opinion and help society. Some journalists become stars and have a strong influence on readers. Investigative journalism is especially important because it helps to reveal the truth.
