The British Library is situated in London, near St Pancras station. It is one of the largest libraries in the world. Its collection includes more than 170 million items, including books, manuscripts, newspapers, maps and recordings.

The library was officially opened in 1973, so it is not very old as a separate institution, but its collections are much older. It is very famous because it keeps many rare and valuable books and documents.

One interesting fact is that the British Library receives a copy of almost every book published in the UK. It is an important research centre and is visited by many people every year.
