1. In reported speech, tenses usually move one step back: present simple → past simple, present continuous → past continuous, present perfect → past perfect, will → would. Pronouns change according to the speaker and the listener.

2. The verbs used to report people’s words are say and tell. Tell is used when the person spoken to is mentioned.

3. Positive commands are reported with to + infinitive. Negative commands are reported with not to + infinitive.

4. Today changes to that day, yesterday to the day before, these to those. Tomorrow changes to the next/following day, next week to the following week, last year to the year before, this to that.
